Discoveries in biomedical science underpin an exciting, rapidly evolving global bioindustry advancing the treatment of disease and the understanding of human health. Career opportunities span a diverse range of fields from medical research to the development of new products and provide an excellent background for further studies in allied health and medicine. In this course you will develop a strong foundation for understanding of human biological systems and the application of this knowledge to health and disease. You can focus on areas of interest in biomedical science, including anatomical sciences, physiology, clinical physiology, cell and molecular biotechnology, biochemistry and infection and immunity.
You will gain real world experience through work integrated learning, clinical or industry placements or through a clinical physiology internship. You will be taught by experts in the field, including researchers who are world experts in addressing current global health problems in areas including cancer biology, tissue engineering, genomics, infectious diseases, the microbiome and vaccine development. The foundational first year of the Bachelor of Biomedical Science equips you with core knowledge and skills which is progressively developed in advanced study areas. During the second and third years of your course you will choose a major (Study Area A) and two minors (Study Area B) and additional electives that facilitate the development of knowledge and skills in your choice of discipline.
each study area has a capstone unit, which is an advanced unit in the final year that integrates, consolidates and apply the learning from your study area and the course as a whole. This ensures that you are prepared to transition to the workplace or to further study or research.
The course structure ensures exposure to a range of discipline areas in Biomedical science and provides diverse learning experiences. LS40 Bachelor of Biomedical Science is designed to deliver both a breadth and depth of knowledge in biomedical science and skills that are essential for the diverse range of careers within the rapidly evolving global industry and professions.
In addition, you will be able to follow career pathways to postgraduate study in medicine, dentistry, veterinary science and allied health courses (including pharmacy, optometry, audiometry, cardiac ultrasound) and postgraduate education.
This course is covered by the QUT Offer Guarantee and Year 12 Early Offer Scheme.
