Selection for admission into this course is made on the basis of merit. Selection for admission is competitive as the number of applicants is likely to exceed the places available in this course. This degree program is not for applicants who are eligible for admission into 2nd year with credit transfer. These applicants must apply for the TAFE Queensland 526882 (Southport) or 555882 (South Bank) Bachelor of Nursing (Advanced Standing). English Language Proficiency Requirements: To practice safely in Australia, health practitioners, including nurses, must have strong English language skills. This includes being able to communicate effectively with patients and their relatives, collaborate with other health care professionals and keep clear and accurate health records. The English language skills registration standard is one of the five core standards required under National Law. In preparation for registration and required by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA), all new applicants to study the Bachelor of Nursing at TAFE Queensland are to demonstrate English language proficiency, as well as literacy and numeracy skills prior to enrolment. To enrol in this program applicants must have attended and satisfactorily completed at least 6 years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English. At least two years of this education must have been between grades 7 and 12. This education must have been completed in one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom and United States of America. Successful applicants will also be required to complete the Basic Key Skills Builder (bksb) assessment and attain competence at or above Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) in both reading and numeracy before enrolment can be finalised. The bksb is a Commonwealth approved literacy and numeracy online assessment tool. This is a requirement in accordance with TAFE Queensland and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC). Applicants should be a minimum of 17 years of age and turning 18 during the first year of study in this course. Applicants who do not meet this criteria are required to participate in an interview with the Course Coordinator before an offer can be made by QTAC.
